Erling Haaland and Phil Foden both score hat tricks as City dominates United in the Manchester Derby

Erling Haaland is the best player in the world. Yes, I will say that. The performances and statistics back it up as Haaland’s hat trick and two assists today puts his tally at 14 goals and three assists in just eight games in the Premier League. Many doubted the role that Erling Haaland could play with Pep and City, but his performances have put no question to his ability. In the first half of the match, City scored four past United - putting the game to rest halfway through. City’s performance dragged down a bit in the second half but still won with an impressive 6-3 scoreline.

Manchester City started strong and had complete control of possession as they attacked. Some great ball movement led to a Bernardo Silva cross, finished by a one-time finish from Phil Foden. City worked best in the first half when they combined the play of the central attacking midfielders and the wingers. Grealish and Bernardo interchanged throughout the left flank, while De Bruyne and Foden did the same on the right. Not only does this offer versatility going forward, but it also gives City an advantage as opponents will not know what to expect when they push forward. Combining that, along with the play of the fullbacks, City’s attacking flow is too much for teams to handle - especially when there is a striker up front that scores as much as Erling Haaland does.

In just three minutes, Haaland showed exactly why he is the best finisher in the world. No matter what one may deem as the quality of the goals, Haaland’s ability to get his foot (or head) to the end of a pass is what separates him from any goalscorer in the world right now. From a pair of Kevin De Bruyne assists, Haaland quickly made the game 3-0. From there, all hope was lost for United. It was now not whether they would lose the game but a question of how bad the deficit would be. Right before the end of the half, a Haaland pass was capitalized by Phil Foden for a lovely 4-0 halftime scoreline.

In the second half, things simmered down, and a well-hit strike from Antony cut the deficit down to three. From there, City picked things back up as a Sergio Gomez cross was finished by Erling Haaland for his third straight home Premier League hat trick. From there, City continued pushing forward, and a forward pass from Haaland led to Foden’s third of the night. A pair of hat tricks from City led to a 6-1 lead heading into the match's final minutes. From there, the foot was taking off the gas pedal, and United was able to pull two back for a 6-3 finish. City return to action on Wednesday for a Champions League match versus FC Københaven at the Etihad Stadium
